PM Vows to Build Modern Multi-Party Liberal Democracy in the Country

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, expressed his confidence in raising Cambodia's national pride to the level seen in the Angkorian era. He affirmed, in front of the King, that his Royal Government is dedicated to making Cambodia more prosperous and advancing and strengthening democracy.

During the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) on Thursday morning, November 9, 2023, in front of the Royal Palace, Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the government of the seventh mandate is committed to safeguarding peace, independence, sovereignty, and national achievements. They are also focused on building a progressive and strong multi-party liberal democracy based on the rule of law. The aim is to improve the lives of the people, making them more prosperous, dignified, and ensuring their human rights are respected.

The Prime Minister also pledged to establish an effective and non-discriminatory social protection system, ensuring financial sustainability and providing protection to the people against economic risks, public health crises, and other vulnerabilities, including demining by 2025.

He also reaffirmed Cambodia's foreign policy based on the principles of friendship and participation in regional and global peacekeeping activities.

A brief history of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces indicates that this national army was formed following the Franco-Khmer Military Convention on January 7, 1946. France arranged for the transfer of full control to Cambodia on July 20, 1954. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia chose November 9, 1953, the day of independence, as the actual birth date of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
